Giles is an experienced planner who has worked in a range of public sector roles. Giles started with GMD consultants in 2019 and has been involved in various projects since.
Giles’s recent work has been with iwi authorities. He provides planning support to Raukawa Charitable Trust on resource consents and plan changes. He has also provided planning assistance to Waikato-Tainui on district plan matters relating to the Waikato River and the development of Māori land.
Giles has assisted Waikato Regional Council’s Tai-ranga-whenua team in the review of partnership and engagement frameworks.
As part of the requirements of the NPS-UD, Giles has assisted Future Proof in reporting on vacant industrial land in the sub-region.
Giles came to GMD Consultants after working for six years as Waikato District Council's Senior Environmental Planner. During this time he led landowner engagement and plan provision development for Significant Natural Areas. He also led the natural character and landscapes topic for the Waikato District Plan review, as well as provisions for multi-unit housing. Before this, he worked as Council’s reserves planner - completing the review of two reserve management plans and leading input on reserve matters during subdivision.
In 2010 Giles worked for the Department of Conservation Tongariro-Whanganui-Taranaki Conservancy based in Turangi as an RMA and concessions planner. Giles started his planning career at Waitakere City Council in 2009 as a resource consent planner.
Giles has a Bachelor of Resource and Environmental Planning (Hons) from Massey University.
